Bloom, Rinse, Repeat

Diving into installation work, this project was installed in the women's bathroom at my school. Playing with the ephemerality of the cherry blossoms that bloom on campus and the short-lasting make-up we wear in our daily lives, this work combines those quick joys and talks about the lasting impacts they have once they pass. Blooming cycles and skin care cycles are more alike than you think! Using eyeshadow, tissues, a photoshoot with a friend, and real petals collected from around campus, I created a super fun installation that asks you to think about how you are spending your time.

Freshly Squeezed

Ever wanted to combine orange like the fruit, with orange like the fish? This weird work explores experimental printmaking methods and installation art to create a dining table mash-up of orange slices and the saturated hues of a fish aquarium. In class we were told to print our matrices on a material you had too much of in your life. I chose plastic bags and printed a variety of neon oranges on the using my different wooden matrices. I then got curious about how filling the bags with water would affect how you saw the print, and how you could see through the bag. This led to me putting plastic bags full of water on my laptop screen as I played different videos on YouTube to discover which played together best. And...TA-DAAAA! Now we have a dining-room installation full of brightly printed oranges on everything, a TV- aquarium table top, and every bit of material I used in this project woven in. The wall art is my orignal orange sketch with the collected wood shavings from my carving, and the utensils are a mixture of real ones and the tools I used to carve into the wood pieces. Enjoy the weirdness!
