Dear Reader,
Growing up with a fraternal twin sister, I have always been curious about how people can be both joined and separated by how they choose to express their identities as throughout their lives. How they express themselves as a five-year-old may be very different from how they express themselves and view themselves now. In order to connect them with their younger self and those childlike dreams and emotions, I engage my audience through 3D and 2D mixed media work that radiates childhood imagination's wondrous pastels and bright joyful colors.
“Embrace your Nonsense!” has been the artistic motto at the center of my work since I graduated from Hawaii Preparatory Academy in 2020. While there, I explored different forms of painting, drawing, and clothing upcycling. At Willamette University, I experimented with how connection can be fostered through individual artistic expression while also learning more about digital work, installation art, and printmaking. For my thesis, I explore how my work could further immerse the viewer in their creatively chaotic childhood-selves and encourage them to bring more playfulness and celebration into their today-selves, no matter their ages.
All in all, I enjoy creating new and exciting things with different mediums, materials, and art forms while focusing on making work that can bring both me and those who experience it the confidence to find happiness in the moment. Currently, I am looking to expand my work into illustration and business as I launch an Etsy store and work on making my work easily accessible.
Thank you for exploring my artworks with me. I hope you enjoy them!
Love, Natalie
